About Scrubproof

Scrubproof is a set of PDF tools for people who have to hand a document to someone else: redact it, number it, compare two versions, or strip what it remembers about itself. Each page is one tool that works straight away, with no account.

How it works

• Your file stays on your device. The PDF is read by a program that runs inside this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and the page’s security policy only allows it to load its own files. You can switch the network off after the page has loaded and the tools keep working.
• Redaction deletes. Redacting removes the text from the page’s content, rewrites pixels under a box in images, drops comments and attachments, and rebuilds the file so that older versions and unused objects are gone. Then it reads the result back with two independent text readers and a scan of every object, and tells you what it checked.
• It says what it cannot see. Text that is part of a picture, such as a scan, is not read. Draw a box over the picture instead, or turn the pages into images.
• Other people’s code is listed on the credits page, with licences.

What Scrubproof is not

It is a tool, not legal advice, and it does not certify that a document meets any court, agency or privacy rule. You decide what has to be removed and you should look at the result before you share it. See the terms.
